Botanical Names: Emblica officinalis,Terminalia bellirica, and Terminalia chebula
Ingredients: Triphala is a Sanskrit word that means three fruits and is a composed of an equal parts blend of the dried and ground fruits of the Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki trees.
Qualities: In traditional Ayurvedic medicine, triphala is one of the most popular herbal formulas. It is most commonly used for immune system stimulation, improvement of digestion, gastrointestinal tract cleansing, and relief of gas and constipation.
Amalaki, aka Indian amla or gooseberry, is considered as rejuvenating herb and is a strong natural antioxidant
Haritaki has the strongest laxative powers of the three fruits
Bibhitaki is an excellent rejuvenative with both laxative and astringent properties. It eliminates excess mucus in the body, and is also used to treat lung conditions, including bronchitis and asthma
Common Use: Triphala has a very strong taste and somewhat gritty texture. While it is possible to find it in pill form, the powder is more effective and can be mixed in cold or hot water, or added to juice. When it is used as a digestive tonic or laxative, it is best taken in the evening, about two hours after eating and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. No food should be eaten for one and a half hours after ingestion.
As a paste for topical applications, it is believed to improve and strengthen hair roots.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
Safety: We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using any herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
