ORGANIC RAMON, powder, roasted

Botanical name: Brosimum alicastrum
Production: Ramon is the seed of a sweet fruit grown on one of the largest trees in the tropical rainforest, which can grow up to 50 meters tall. It is native to Latin America and the Caribbean.
Qualities: Ramon is also known as breadnut, Maya nut or capomo. The fruit is known for its nutritional benefits and diverse range of uses, and is used in the Mayan diet and in pre-Columbian cuisine.
Ramon is high in fiber, calcium, potassium, folate, iron, zinc, protein, and other micronutrients, and has been used by traditional healers to treat a variety of ailments including colitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, asthma, and lactation problems.
Common Use: Roasted ramon has a coffee-like flavour with hints of cocoa and is enjoyed by OM staff as a warm beverage. To make, just add one heaping teaspoon of powder to one cup of hot water and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Straining is optional. Roasted ramon blends well with other sweet and nutty flavours such as maca, carob, cinnamon, and mint.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
