What it means

The opening line calls Ganpati the one who brings happiness and takes away sorrow, who removes every obstacle. The second verse describes him, the sandalwood paste, the kumkum, the jewelled crown, the anklets you can hear. The last verse is Ramdas himself waiting at the door, asking to be protected in a moment of trouble. It is a very old, very domestic prayer. That is why it survives in kitchens ten thousand miles from Pune.

Twice a day while Bappa is home, after the morning puja and again in the evening, and a final time before visarjan. Many families also sing Ghalin Lotangan after the aarti.
