Botanical Name: Asparagus racemosus
Production: Asparagus racemosus is a species of asparagus that is common in Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, and the Himalayas. The plant has an adventitious root system of tuberous roots and about 100 per plant.
Qualities: Shatavari is a highly regarded herb, known in India's Ayurvedic medicine as the "queen of herbs" and usually linked to women's health, promoting love and positive emotions, enhanced fertility, and regulation of the menstrual cycle. It is said to restore hormonal balance in women who have fluctuating hormonal levels due to menstruation and menopause, and to alleviate premenstrual and menopausal symptoms. With an estrogenic effect on the female mammary glands and reproductive system, shatavari is believed to boost postpartum health and enhance the production of breast milk in lactating mothers.
Common Use: Shatavari is typically prepared as a tea or in a tincture. I can also be added to smoothies or taken in capsules.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
