Ingredients: freeze-dried acai berry powder.Acai ( pronounced ah-sigh-ee), is also known as Acai Palm or Amazon Acai.
Production: Acai palms are a species of palm tree that are mostly native to Brazil and Trinidad. The fruit, commonly known as acai berry, is a small, round, dark purple drupe, that looks similar to a grape (but smaller in size). Acai berries are highly perishable and need to be processed within 24 hours after harvest. Most commonly they are turned into juice or wine or freeze dried and then powdered.
Qualities:a staple in the diet of indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest for centuries, acai berries are a relatively new "superfood" on the international market and scientific research regarding their benefits is still evolving. So far, acai berries have been found to be naturally low in sugar, very high in antioxidant anthocyanins and polyphenols (responsible for dark purple color), as well as vitamin E and iron. People have used acai to promote weight loss and as a detoxification aid and some tests have shown its ability to support healthy and normal cellular tissue growth which may combat signs of aging and improve general health.
Common Use: The acai flavor is described as a mixture of sun-ripe blackberries, red wine, and chocolate. This tart, grainy powder can be used in smoothies and juice blends, and to amplify flavor and nutrition in homemade granola, chocolate, and frozen desserts!
Storage: Store in a cool, dark, dry place. Refrigeration not required.
