Botanical Name: Equisetum arvense
Production: Horsetail is a flowerless, vascular plant that reproduces through spores rather than seeds. It is considered to be a living fossil and has changed very little, other than in size, in millions of years. Its roots dig as deep as 150 feet and they dissolve minerals and absorb them into the plant's cells.
Qualities: Horsetail is one of the most abundant natural sources of silica in the plant kingdom, as well as containing calcium and potassium. Silica strengthens connective tissue including bones, cartilage, skin, hair, and nails. Tea made from horsetail has been used to soothe asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory issues, as it is said to strengthen lung tissue and prevent inflammation.
Common Use: Horsetail is commonly used in teas, tinctures, or encapsulated. It also has many cosmetic uses.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in a sealed container.
Safety: We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using any herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
